The Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) is proud to announce GRAD 21. The Graduate Recruitment and Development (GRAD) is a platform that seeks to increase Fashion Graduates’ exposure to initiate conversations and build contacts with possible buyers, stylists, and media, and fast-track their entry into the job market.
In collaboration with South African Menswear Week, and allfashion sourcing, emerging designers will have the opportunity to showcase their creations and walk the runway with South Africa’s top designers.
As part of CTFC’s digital strategy, the GRAD initiative is fully online and comprises of three stages.

Stage 1
Individuals who graduated in the last five years with an N6 or higher can register. Your application form, CV, and portfolio images will need to be submitted before Tuesday 20th July 2021 at midnight.

Overview
A national recruitment directory designed specifically for recent graduates to get a foot in the door of fashion houses, retailers, and/or any employer that is looking for your skills.
Why should I apply:
- Be part of the GRAD Class of 21 directory and be seen by potential employers. (Who knows who is looking, right?)
- You will be in the running to show at Grad Week during South African Menswear Week, Cape Town.
- Stand a chance to be entered into AllFashion Sourcing Young Designers competition with Prizes valued at over R80 000 and a trip to Texworld, Paris in 2022.

Stage 2
Following a curation process, qualifying graduates will be able to showcase their final year collection at South Africa Menswear Week 21 and be filmed on the 29th July 2021.

Graduates will be curated from the Grad Online platform to show their final-year collections and share the ramp with some of Sourht Africa’s top designers.
Why should I apply:
- Walk the ramp with some of South Africa’s top designers.
- Receive professional videos and images from your show for your portfolio.
- Have recruiters see your collection firsthand.
- Gain the valuable visibility you need to begin conversations and establish connections with potential recruiters, buyers, stylists, and media.
Who should apply:
- Only graduates who have registered and qualify on the GRAD Online platform.
- Only graduates who still have their final year collection may apply.
- Only graduates who can attend or can courier their collection by the 28th July 2021
(*No courier costs will be absorbed by the CTFC.)
What do I need to apply?
- All Grad Show designers will be required to have 3 looks, accessories, and styling guides as part of their collection.
- They either need to be a full womenswear capsule or a menswear capsule.
- Due to show logistics, mixed capsules are not available.
- All the necessary systems for a fashion show will be supplied to the graduates.
- Must attend an online briefing. (Date: TBC)

Stage 3
The top five qualifying graduates curated at Grad Week will be eligible to enter the allfashion Sourcing Young Designer Competition (YDC2021). The competition offers young designers an opportunity to showcase their skillset through their interpretation of a design brief. This year’s brief is on Slow Fashion, emphasizing craftsmanship, quality, and functionality linked to a more sustainable future.

Overview
Top 5 Graduates will be curated from GRAD week by the curation panel of allfashion sourcing Young Designers Competition and will be eligible to enter The allfashion sourcing Young Designer Competition that is now in its fourth year. The competition offers young designers an opportunity to showcase their skillset through their interpretation of a predetermined design brief – built on the concept of Slow Fashion with emphasis on craftsmanship, quality, and functionality linked to a more sustainable future.
Why should I apply:
- The competition features prizes valued in excess of R80 000, with the main prize being an all-expenses-paid opportunity to participate at Texworld, Paris in 2022.
(*Depending on travel restrictions.) - Includes a R15 000 cash prize for the winner and R5 000 for the runner-up.
- The finals will be hosted live at the allfashion sourcing event taking place at the Lookout, Waterfront on the 21 October 2021
- the finals will be filmed and re-shared on the Allfashion sourcing virtual platform as well as the Cape Town Fashion website
Who can apply:
- Only graduates who have registered and qualify on the GRAD Online
- Only graduates who have been selected to show at GRAD WEEK.
- Graduates will be curated by a panel selected by allfashion sourcing based on a predetermined criteria.
- If selected, the top 5 graduates from GRAD WEEK will join 10 final-year students to participate in the allfashion sourcing Young Designers Competition. The contest requires competitors to create garments according to the Young Designers Brief 2021. Only the top 5 curated graduates will be selected to move forward.
- Junior employees that are completing their internal company design program/internship
- Recent design graduates. (2016 to 2020)
- Must be studying or have graduated from an accredited design institution in South Africa.
- Internal company design program applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years of age.
