The Cape Town Fashion Council, registered as a Non-Profit Organisation in 2006, is the first established fashion industry council of its kind in South Africa (SA). The CTFC has, since then, been best recognised as a body that develops, supports, promotes, and represents the Western Cape and South African fashion sector and its creative constituents. Over the past decade, the CTFC has aimed at exponentially growing its fashion sector membership and has, to date, managed to develop, support, promote and represent over 3 116 sector related constituents. These constituents include students and their respective tertiary institutions, start-up, emerging and established independent fashion design SMEs, as well as industry experts and media houses. Throughout the CTFC’s 10-year tenure and into the future, it always aims to impact on job creation and positively contribute to SA’s GDP along the fashion, clothing, and textiles value chain. The CTFC’s desire to develop, support, promote, and represent local fashion designers, and their businesses, stretches far beyond their abundance and aptitude. South African fashion, as fickle as the industry is, inhabits its own unique, inimitable signature. It encompasses the rich heritage and distinctive cultures and subcultures of South African and its fashion designers. This unmatched South African essence does, regrettably, go unrecognized too frequently – often, by our very own consumers. Being the main member of the CTFC, independent fashion designers and their SMEs, thus require an overarching representative body that can sufficiently nurture their business shortcomings and, through its programs and initiatives, proactively respond to the primary problems of our industry – counterfeiting, cheap imports, decreased local market share and limited investment in the required infrastructure and technology. Through our core programs, the CTFC aims to counteract the impact of the changing local and global landscape to exponentially grow SA’s emerging fashion sector, which includes Youth Development, Product Development, and Innovation, SME Development, Market Development, Export Development, and Skills Development throughout all pillars.
VISION | To, through its primary pillars and programs, shift South African fashion into a competitive and international sphere of fashion excellence.
MISSION | To create relevant, competitive, and accessible intervention programs that will enable members to develop their creative and business acumen, create innovative products of an international standard, and maintain sustainable businesses and partnerships.
